The Mermaid welcomes 400 industry professionals to river rooms grand opening
Blackfriars’ conference and events center, The Mermaid, held the grand opening of its river rooms for the meetings and event industry last night (3rd October) to showcase the newly refurbished spaces.
A number of senior industry professionals from companies including BBC, HSBC and Unilever were among the 400 guests who enjoyed canapés and drinks produced by onsite caterer Create Food and Party Design. The theme, ‘A night of illusions’, saw guests being treated to hot pass-around mini plates and bowl food; freshly made crab salad with fresh crabs being cracked in front of guests, and an illusive pick ‘n’ mix station with savoury treats.
Guests arrived to the venue’s Mezzanine where a sensory tunnel, stimulating the five senses, lead on to the lower river room for a sparkling drinks reception and canapés. Attendees where then accompanied by flautist Samantha Pearce to the upper river room, where a cappella group The Magnets gave a flash mob performance. As a finale, guests were welcomed into the venue’s kitchen for a soufflé dessert.
Alicia Duncan, general manager at The Mermaid said: “With the refurbishments of the river rooms recently completed, we wanted our clientele to enjoy not only the fantastic views of the Thames that the spaces provide, but also to get a first-hand look at the new spaces and experience all that they have to offer.”
The river rooms recently completed a £600k refurbishment, being re-styled with an open-plan layout, featuring new contemporary furniture and LED lighting, finished with dark wooden floors.
