The O2 secures National Television Awards for 2018
The O2 last night (25 January) welcomed the biggest names in British television as it hosted the National Television Awards (NTAs) for the eighth time. It was also announced on the night that the awards ceremony would once again take place at The O2 in 2018.
Celebrating the best shows to grace the small screen over the past year, the prestigious awards ceremony at The O2 attracted 11,000 guests including TV stars Holly Willoughby, Phillip Schofield, Ant and Dec as well as stars from Coronation Street, EastEnders and the nation’s most watched TV programmes.
The O2 has a reputation for hosting high profile, high production events of this kind in London, and has kicked off 2017 in style with the recent xXx film premiere taking place under the tent, the NTAs and the upcoming BRIT Awards in February.
The NTAs required a one day set build, with a full day of rehearsals with host Dermot O’Leary taking place one day prior to the live ceremony. The O2’s dedicated teams were fully utilised to ensure the smooth running of the event, including the Corporate Events Team, Venue Management, Ticketing, Marketing & Communications, and the Technical and IT team who were on hand to ensure everything was in place for the live broadcast of the ceremony.
A red carpet (63.5cm) almost as long as the wingspan of a Boeing 747 was installed at the VIP entrance of The O2 and was graced by almost 700 stars. Inside the arena, the NTAs stage was lit by half a million different lights and LEDs, held up by 48 tonnes of rigging.
Following the ceremony, stars attended the after party in the American Express Invites Lounge where they enjoyed Champagne Collet, Echo Falls wine, alongside food including Haggis with neeps and tatties and Scottish Berry Brulee to celebrate Burns Night.
Becci Thomson, Head of Corporate Sales at The O2, says: “We were delighted to once again host the National Television Awards at The O2. The NTAs are the biggest night of the year for the television industry and its stars, and the evening did not disappoint. The arena is the perfect space for such a prestigious awards ceremony – it provides a recognisable backdrop to the evening and matches the grandeur of the occasion. We have a great relationship with the NTAs team who continue to recognise The O2 as the ideal venue for this event – we are looking forward to working with them once again next year.”
