The Mermaid celebrates River Rooms 1st birthday as refurbishment is completed
Last Thursday, (16th October) The Mermaid Conference & Events Centre threw a lavish British themed 1st birthday party for its River Rooms.
The renowned London venue welcomed over 400 corporate meetings & event buyers and agencies to celebrate one year of the River Rooms and showcase the completion of the final stage of a 700K refurbishment. The renovation further increased the capacity of the rooms by bringing together Queenhithe and the Upper River Room to create a more flexible event space for up to 600 guests, whilst also enhancing the stunning views of the Thames which showcases many of the iconic sites of London.
During the evening the Lower River Room was transformed with Borough Market style pop-up stalls with a variety of food to sample including Neal’s Yard cheese; Borough’s fish catch; and the old favourite ‘pie n mash’. An array of finger food and grazing stations was also on offer in the Upper River Room and featured Cashel blue macaroni cheese; butter poached coronation chicken; and individual fish and chips; followed by a flowing chocolate fondue, all provided by in-house caterer Create Food and Party design.
Guests were treated to performance from Matthew Crowe & Sooz Kempner in the auditorium as they arrived which showcased the venue’s new ROOMMATCH audio system. Busker Matthew Periment, a DJ, photo booth and all round British theming then entertained throughout the night. State of the art, interactive Giant iTabs were available for party-goers to tweet their thoughts, pictures and enter a competition. Invitees were also given the VIP treatment with free transport from Thames Clippers to and from the party.
“This was a spectacular birthday party,” said Louise Drake, meetings and events consultant at Inntel “it clearly demonstrated The Mermaid’s capabilities for events at their best. The venue has a brilliant location and great facilities for both meetings and parties, complimented by diligent customer service from every member of the team.”
Alicia Duncan, general manager at The Mermaid commented, “The party really was a fantastic way to celebrate the final stage of the refurbishment and showcase not only the flexibility of our spaces but also our service delivery and the way we respond to client demands. I would very much like to thank everyone who attended the party and in particular our partners on the night who made the event extra special.”
