Lord’s Cricket Ground gears up for third century
Lord’s Cricket Ground is set for an exciting 2015 as Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) prepares to play its part in another Ashes series.
Following the Ground’s 200th birthday celebrations in 2014, Lord’s is ready for a season of world class Test cricket and county matches. With this comes a strong demand for non-match day activities including corporate and charity conferences, teambuilding and awards dinners.
2015 will see major corporate organisations use the Home of Cricket for their live events programmes with events confirmed by Waitrose and leading companies across the banking, financial services and legal sectors. Charity events also feature significantly in the diary with Chance to Shine headlining some of the activities. Upwards of 3000 delegates are expected throughout 2015, representing an increase of 12% from 2014, and once again illustrating the popularity of Lord’s as a venue for corporate events.
Lord’s will also host the first England v. New Zealand Investec Test Match between 21 and 25 May, the second England v. Australia Investec Ashes Test Match between 16 and 21 July and the second England v. Australia Royal London One Day International taking place on 5 September.
Demand for non-match day spend in meetings and events is being driven from increased confidence in the market as well as the presence of the original Ashes Urn in the MCC Museum, an attraction that only Lord’s can offer delegates and guests. In 2014, the Ground hosted over 300 events and headlined with a purpose built marquee as part of its Bicentenary celebrations on the fabled outfield.
Nick Kenton, MCC Head of Sales, commented: “This year will be one of our busiest summers as we host another two Test matches as well as a One Day International. Our renowned first class food offering and individual events spaces are unique to the London market. And of course, the fact it is an Ashes year means our demand for meetings, events and alfresco summer parties is at an all-time high as we enter our third century”.
The meetings and events team will also be welcoming event bookers etc, on an open day on 6 February, showcasing the Ground’s premium facilities.
