Wellcome Collection, London’s destination for the incurably curious, has put into place a temporary closure of its events spaces as a £17.5 million development of the venue begins.

Due to re-open in May 2014, the enhanced events spaces, masterminded by award-winning architects Wilkinson Eyre, will draw on the destination’s theme of highlighting connections between medicine and art. The delegate experience will be further enhanced as a result of the conference center’s refreshed interior and underline the venues place as a destination of choice for medical science organisations.

Since Wellcome Collection’s opening six years ago, a number of high-profile events, from book launches to awards ceremonies, have been held in the esteemed setting. With the current expansion, Wellcome Collection aims to continue attracting business from notable clients, and will be able to accommodate up to 510 people across its seven spaces.

Existing spaces due for reinvigoration include the Medicine Now gallery, which can play host to evening drinks receptions, and will gain a new wake of life thanks to a dynamic staircase through which the gallery will be accessed.

Wellcome Collection has celebrated a successful first half of 2013, hosting over 650 corporate events during its financial year. Wellcome Collection Gift Aids all profits from events back to the Wellcome Trust.
