Levy Restaurants UK celebrates a year of community giving
As 2016 comes to a close, and to mark December’s recent Local Charities Day, Levy Restaurants UK is celebrating its Levy Cares programme, focused on making a difference to peoples’ lives in the UK and overseas.
Through Levy Cares, the business has been working closely with its Partners and brands to support local communities, fundraise at a local level and to help contribute to a variety of charity initiatives. Championed at many of Levy Restaurants’ client venues – from sports stadiums, historic landmarks and high profile events – the programme has touched the lives and made a positive impact on charities and community groups.
Some examples in 2016 include:
- Swansea City AFC’s ‘Give Jack a Jacket’ campaign that aims to help keep the homeless of Wales warm this winter. The campaign saw the Levy Restaurants team at the Liberty Stadium welcome 150 of The Wallich’s service users to the club where they were given a hot meal, as well as hosting service users of Age Cymru for a Christmas Afternoon Tea.
- The team at Stamford Bridge created a ‘Feel Good Fridays’ charity initiative with every Friday in December dedicated to raising money for a variety of causes including the Alzheimer’s Society. Other initiatives included a successful collection for Stand up to Cancer.
- £2,500 was raised by the team at Lime Venue Portfolio to help children’s charity Happy Days while Keith Prowse took on multiple events including a 50 mile walk between London venues, No-Swear-Vember and bake sales raising nearly £6,000 for Cancer Research.
- Leith’s teams also participated in a number of fundraising activities in 2016 with colleagues at Hever Castle and the QEII Centre completing fun runs and bake sales in support of Cancer Research.
- Jockey Club Catering become patrons of South Thames College, giving students the opportunity to experience life within a professional kitchen, developing skills and confidence of working in fast paced, live environment.
- In partnership with Life Water and associate charity, drop4drop, Levy Restaurants has completed its fifth clean water bore well in 2016, helping to deliver clean drinking water to more than 2,000 people in developing nations.
Hilda Digida form Magungu 3 community in Uganda is one person to have benefitted from access to clean water from a well donated by one of Levy’s brands, Jockey Club Catering. She commented: “Everything has changed thanks to Jockey Club Catering who have provided us with a reliable source of clean water, to us it is a joy, and we no longer have to walk long distances to look for water. Everything has been eased and it is not just a source of water, they just breathed life into us.”
