Jockey Club Venues reaps rewards from live music events
Group puts on strong performance
Jockey Club Venues has seen a surge in demand for its live music events.
The sector is becoming an increasingly important part of the organisation’s business mix and is seeing the UK’s leading racecourses square up to more traditional music arenas.
Its 31 live music events in 2011, where horse racing is followed by a major artist performing, contributed to 16% of The Jockey Club’s annual 1.9m footfall. In turn, the group enjoyed its third most profitable year ever for music related events, despite strong competition within the live entertainment sector.
The summer of 2012 promises to be equally fruitful, with a strong programme of acts including Tom Jones, Madness, Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons, Will Young, Olly Murs, Van Morrison and McFly. Tickets for all enclosures to see Jessie J at Newmarket Racecourse in Suffolk, Friday 17th July, sold out in just three weeks, more than three months prior to the performance date.
Several popular music venues have experienced restrictions on live music events, including noise level monitoring and controls over low frequency noise and repetitive beat, as well as a reduction in attendee capacities following complaints from the public and health concerns. The Jockey Club Venues racecourses are nestled amidst expansive countryside, hence live music events are far removed from residents.
John Baker, group director of operations, commented: “The figures for our live music evenings are further evidence of our growing status in the live events industry, and we are extremely excited about our schedule of live music concerts running alongside Britain’s summer of sporting events.”
The 14 racecourses under the Jockey Club Venues moniker, which includes Cheltenham, Market Rasen, Carlisle, Exeter and the three London Racecourses (Epsom Downs, Kempton Park and Sandown Park Racecourses), are offering 23 live music events between 22nd June and 7th September 2012.
