Jockey Club Catering, a sister company of Levy Restaurants, has created a new space in partnership with Sandown Park Racecourse, to create an upscale dining destination.

Equus restaurant, a joint dining venture between Sandown Park Racecourse and Jockey Club Catering was launched last month.

The 275-seat restaurant has been designed to evoke the exclusivity of a private members’ club and appeal to the younger racing demographic, which the racecourse is looking to attract.

Equus will be open on racedays for the spring season and plans are in place to open the restaurant for use as a private events space.

With the brief to create an aspirational dining experience, award-winning architects and interior designers SHH were asked to create a stylish environment complementing the restaurant’s stunning dual aspect views across the racecourse, winning post and parade ring.

Menus have been created for Equus by Head Chef Allen Townsend and his team . Guests will be able to enjoy starters including ‘Pigeon with parsnip puree, honey stock and pearl barley’ and a contemporary representation of egg & soldiers. Main courses will include ‘Twice cooked pork belly, pan seared scallops, black pudding, star anise and minestrone emulsion’ and ‘Halibut with a lemon herb gnocchi, brown crab butter and wild garlic oil’ or for vegetarians ‘Butternut squash, wild mushrooms, sage beignet, toasted pine nuts, foraged herbs and white truffle foam’. To finish, diners can enjoy Equus’ signature tasting plate of desserts including ‘Raspberry and elderflower crème brulée’, ‘Lemon and lime posset’, ‘Chocolate brownie with raspberry sorbet’ and a ‘Cheese tasting plate’.

The restaurant will be open every raceday and is also available for private hire throughout the year for weddings, banquets and conferences.”
