IET London: Savoy Place engineers launch of customer service app
IET London: Savoy Place has further enhanced its reputation for venue innovation and engineering prowess with the launch today (25 October) of a new customer service app.
Developed by Squint Opera, the app has been designed to assist and inform delegates and visitors of the building. An in-built floor plan will navigate guests around Savoy Place, help locate conference and event spaces and access a daily diary of events, as well as discover more about the hidden history of IET London: Savoy Place.
The exploratory design of the app has seen over 40 iBeacons built into walls throughout the interior and exterior of the venue; each beacon is located close to items of interest, including the ‘100 engineering ideas that changed the world’ exhibit and digital chandelier. Detecting BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) the app uses a phone or tablet’s Bluetooth. As visitors get within close proximity – up to 20m – of a beacon the device receives a push notification with exclusive content about the item. The venue app also allows event organisers to upload ‘on the day’ content for their events including programmes, delegate lists, videos and sponsor logos.
Simon Timmis, senior marketing manager at IET Venues, commented: “By developing this app we hope it will greatly benefit delegates and visitors at Savoy Place, the easy navigation allows users to find their way around the building, but also unearth details about our exhibits and events taking place. Customer review and loyalty is hugely important and initial feedback on the venue since we re-opened has been extremely positive – this is the next stage in our development to ensure guests have as welcoming and worthwhile an experience at the venue as possible. The iBeacons design has added a further dimension to the engineering feats displayed throughout the venue; we’re excited that you’ll be able to carry the IET around with you on your phone wherever you are.”
Using the latest app technology, the device has built-in Xamarin framework, and has been developed across multiple platforms for iOS and Android phone and tablets.
