Banqueting House, one of the six venues cared for by independent charity Historic Royal Palaces, last night (14 September) welcomed high end wedding planners, press and bloggers to the Historic Royal Palaces Wedding Showcase: A Modern Fairy Tale.

A first-of its-kind event for Historic Royal Palaces, the concept behind the evening was to take guests through a Banqueting House wedding journey, and to launch the exclusive Bridal Bible, a guide to weddings at the venue.

On entering the venue, guests walked through a modern woodland setting in the front courtyard with maple leaf white twilight trees and an asymmetric floral archway, where they were greeted by the ‘Royal Footman’ and escorted into the Undercroft for the ceremony.

Once inside, guests were treated to a fashion show, designed to highlight to guests how the Undercroft can be transformed for wedding ceremonies. Designers taking part included Sassi Holford wedding dresses, Two Birds bridesmaid dresses and Apsley Suits.

Guests were then led to the versatile Main Hall, which was divided in half with floral displays on four plinths to accommodate the drinks reception, dinner and after dinner drinks. Guests enjoyed a Ruinart Champagne reception by Moët-Hennessy with canapés by Blue Strawberry, all the while listening to contemporary classics played by the String Trio. A Lucky Voice video booth proved popular on the night, with many guests taking the opportunity to test their vocal chords.

Following the speeches, the wedding breakfast, catered by Blue Strawberry, was served. The menu featured cured confit sea trout with pickled pumpkin, charred cucumber, kohlrabi and horseradish to start; a main course of glazed breast of guinea fowl with tomato gnocchi, Jerusalem artichokes and black olive puree; and a lemon posset with white chocolate honeycomb and wild berries to finish.

After dinner it was time to enjoy post-dinner drinks and a dance under the magnificent Rubens celling while listening to live music from JM Band. Upon leaving, guests received a goody bag which included the newly launched Banqueting House Bridal Bible and a sample of cake from Abigail Bloom.

Jennifer Lockham, Head of Banqueting House says: “We had a truly fantastic evening at Banqueting House – it was great to welcome so many high end wedding planners, press and bloggers to the first Historic Royal Palaces Wedding Showcase. The idea behind the event was to allow guests not only the opportunity to see Banqueting House first-hand, but to experience the wedding journey that their clients or readers might expect if they were to choose one of Historic Royal Palaces beautiful venues for their special day. It was also the perfect opportunity for us to launch the Banqueting House Bridal Bible, our fabulous guide to planning the perfect wedding at the venue.”

Suppliers on the night included Philippa Craddock (flowers), Blue Strawberry (catering), Prelude Entertainment (all entertainment), Piccolo Press (invitations, order of service, menus and place cards), Vibration Group (AV equipment), Holly Clark (photography), At Motion (videography), Abigail Bloom Cake Company, Lucky Voice (video booth), Twilight Trees (sculptured LED trees), Sassi Holford (wedding dress designer), Apsley (suit hire), Two Birds (bridesmaid dresses) and Moët -Hennessy (Champagne).
